When will the project start / finish?
The project is expected to start late May / early June and last no more than 150 days. The project is expected to finish early Fall, likely October
2010.
How was the brick / stone selected?
The "red" color scheme was selected during the April 28, 2009 OPNA General Meeting (all attending members were able to vote). With this
direction, the City (working with the Consultant) selected two brick options and two stone options. "Ole Orleans" brick and "Cordoba Cream" stone
were selected during the October 20, 2009 OPNA General Meeting (all attending members were able to vote). This selection was submitted to the
City; however, there were several neighbors who preferred the brick used for the west Campbell Road wall (between Floyd Rd & Waterview Rd -
across from UTD). The City okayed us to use the same brick ("Fireside") and the Board agreed to let those members who voted on October 20 select
between "Ole Orleans" and "Fireside". In late February, "Fireside" was submitted to the City as our final brick selection.
Will the alleys and streets be blocked during construction?
The Contractor does not expect to block alleys and/or streets - the wide parkway between the wall and Campbell Rd / Plano Rd should provide
ample room. If blockage or closure is needed, the City will notify Katherine Cargile and an "OPNA Bulletin" email will be distributed.
What will the entry signs look like?
We agreed with the Consultant recommendation - cast stone with Euro Roman font in black (letters will be 7 inches tall). We didn’t think it was
necessary to match the fonts OPNA generally uses (Georgia, Arial) or the color we selected for sign toppers (dark red). It was more important to
have a “timeless” look and the best readability.
Where will the entry signs be placed?
The signs along Plano Rd will be placed on the south side short walls. The sign for Owens Blvd is currently planned for the west side short wall;
however, we are still working with the City on this placement. We have concerns about the potential limited visibility - there is just a lot going on in
this area… power pole with multiple support cables, traffic pole with large attached box, two raised utility boxes AND given the way short walls will
be reconstructed, the sign may need to move further west (away from the intersection – this is compounded by the fact that the preferred
placement would be on the east side of Owens Blvd, but the “house” is there).
How will the top of the wall be finished?
