UPDATE (January 19, 2011) - Thanks so much to the residents that provided feedback - it really helped the OPNA Board finalize these letters! Yesterday, these final letters (sidewalks, neighborhood vitality) were sent to City Council. If you support the Owens Park position, the OPNA Board needs your help NOW - take just a few minutes to write a personal letter to City Council! In an attempt to make this as easy as possible for you, a simple website has been set up - just click here. You will need to enter your name, email, address and a short personal message... then just hit SEND and you're done! Click here to see an example personal message.

Owens Park Residents -

As you may or may not know, the City Council is currently considering how to best spend neighborhood vitality funds ($2,000,000) approved in the May 2010 bond election as well as sidewalk funds ($300,000) and neighborhood vitality funds ($700,000) left over from the May 2006 bond election.
THREE MILLION DOLLARS ARE BEING ALLOCATED!!! Whether or not you agreed with the 2010 bond, the fact remains that it was passed - the most pressing civic responsibility each of us has now is to ensure the City Council approves a balanced and responsible allocation of the funds. Based on City Council/Staff discussion at three City Council Work Sessions over the last 6 weeks and months of dialogue with Neighborhood Services Director Don Magner, the OPNA Board feels the City Council is on course to approve a City Staff proposal that is imbalanced and inconsistent with the voters' intent - WE NEED TO TAKE ACTION NOW!

ACTION #1: Please read the two official OPNA letters (sidewalks, neighborhood vitality) to City Council. The OPNA Board is united on our stand, but we were elected to represent you… we want to hear your feedback, your support or even your disapproval (with suggestions, please). Based on the feedback, we will either be sending these letters on Monday January 17 on behalf of the OPNA Board and Owens Park residents, OR just on behalf of the OPNA Board.

ACTION #2: If the issues addressed by these letters concern you, please send your own letters to City Council! Given this is election season (May 14, 2011), we have a unique opportunity. City Council members will likely be more sensitive to individual letters from residents. With your individual voice added to the OPNA voice, we may have a fighting chance! In an attempt to make this as easy as possible for you, a simple website will be made available to you starting Monday January 17 (opens at 8AM) through Monday January 24 (closes at 5PM) - all you will have to do is enter your information, craft a short personal message and hit SEND! We will take care of the rest. Instructions will be sent out Monday January 17.

ACTION #3: Please forward this email to your Owens Park neighbors! A key goal of the 2010-2011 OPNA Board is to capture at least one email address per household - right now, we have less than half. Email is an effective way to rapidly communicate with our residents. Rest assured, every attempt is made to limit emails - most months, just one brief email is distributed. Help us keep you information of key issues impacting our neighborhood! IF THIS EMAIL WAS FORWARDED TO YOU, PLEASE TAKE JUST 30 SECONDS TO SIGN UP FOR OUR EMAIL DISTRIBUTION BY CLICKING HERE.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me directly. Thank you for your support.
